Agreeing to these terms

These terms cover your use of the Shafter Concrete website and any estimate, quote or work you get from us. By using the site, calling us or booking a job, you agree to them, so please don't use the site if you don't.

When you hire us, we'll put your job in a written estimate or contract. If that document says something different from this page, the written agreement for your job is the one that applies.

What we do

Shafter Concrete is a concrete contractor in Shafter, CA. We're licensed and insured. We build driveways, patios, sidewalks, steps, slabs, footings, foundations and other flatwork, which is the flat concrete you walk and drive on, for homes and businesses in Shafter and the cities around it. You'll find the full list of services on our home page, and you can read how we work on our About page.

The work we do on your property is the work written in your estimate or contract. Anything not listed there, like hauling extra fill, removing buried debris or fixing a drainage problem we find once the old slab is out, isn't included until we've agreed on it with you.

What you read on this website is general information about concrete work. It isn't advice for your particular property, because we can't judge your soil, slope or drainage until we've seen them.

Estimates and pricing

Our quotes are free, done on site and obligation-free. The price depends on things like the size and thickness of the slab, how much old concrete has to come out, how much base work the ground needs, how easy it is to get our equipment in and the finish you choose.

An estimate is based on what we can see before we start. Once the old concrete is broken out, we sometimes find soft soil, roots or buried pipe, and if that changes the work, we'll tell you what we found and what it costs before we go ahead. Any change to the price or the scope has to be agreed in writing by both of us.

An estimate holds for the period written on it. After that, we may need to update it because material and delivery costs change.

Scheduling, weather and cancellation

We'll give you a start date when you book, but it's a target, not a promise. We won't pour in rain or in heat that would leave a weak, dusty surface, so weather can move your date, and so can supplier delays, inspections, other trades or a work area that isn't ready.

Before we start, please make sure we can get to the work area, mark any sprinkler lines and private lines you know about, and keep kids, pets and cars away from the job. We'll call for underground utility marking where the job needs it, but we can only avoid what's marked or what you've told us about.

New concrete needs time to cure, which is the wait while it hardens and gains strength before it can take weight. We'll tell you when it's safe to walk on and when it's safe to drive on, and damage from using it sooner isn't our responsibility.

If you need to cancel or move your date, let us know as soon as you can by calling (661) 776-8737 or using our Contact page. If you cancel after we've ordered materials or started work, you'll owe for the materials ordered and the work done up to that point, as set out in your contract. If we have to cancel, we'll tell you as early as we can and either reschedule or refund any payment for work we haven't done.

Payment

Your contract sets out any deposit, when each payment is due and how you can pay. The final balance is due when the work in your contract is finished, unless your contract says otherwise.

If a payment is late, we may pause work until it's paid. Where California law allows, we may also recover reasonable collection costs and use the remedies the law gives contractors for unpaid work.

What we stand behind and what we don't

Concrete cracks, and no contractor can honestly promise otherwise. We cut control joints, which are grooves that give the slab a planned place to crack in a straight line, so hairline cracks along or near those joints are normal and aren't a defect.

Small differences in color, texture and surface from one pour to the next are also normal. A broom finish, the light brushed texture that gives the surface grip, won't look perfectly uniform, and that's part of how it works.

Any warranty on your job is the one written in your contract. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our work and this website come without other promises, stated or implied.

We aren't responsible for problems caused by loads heavier than the slab was built for, using the slab before it cured, tree roots, changes to grading or drainage made by others, lack of reasonable care, or work done by anyone else. We want you satisfied with the job, so if something doesn't look right, call us first and we'll come look at it.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, such as lost use of your property or lost income. Our total liability for any claim about a job is limited to what you paid us for that job.

We aren't responsible for damage to buried lines, sprinkler pipes or other hidden items that weren't marked or disclosed to us before work began. Links on this website to other sites are there for convenience, and we don't control what those sites say.

Nothing on this page takes away any right you have under California law that can't be waived.

Settling a disagreement

If you're unhappy with anything, call us at (661) 776-8737 or reach us through our Contact page first, because most problems get sorted out once we're standing at the slab together.

If we can't settle it that way, we both agree to try mediation in good faith before filing a lawsuit. Either of us can still take a claim to small claims court if it qualifies, or ask a court for urgent relief.

Governing law

These terms and any work we do are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any lawsuit about them will be brought in a court in California, in the county where the work was done unless the law requires otherwise.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, and the version posted here is the one that applies to your use of the site. Changes won't alter a contract you've already signed with us unless we both agree in writing.

If you have questions about these terms, get in touch through our Contact page or call (661) 776-8737.
